Highlights of candidates' differences on federal employee issues

Sens. Barack Obama (info) and John McCain (info) may not be talking extensively about federal employee issues on the campaign trail, but two issues that affect government workers show the differences between the presidential candidates: Collective Bargaining Rights and Outsourcing of government work.

North Carolina House of Representatives

Budget talks have gotten as hot as the temperature at high noon.  House and Senate negotiators have been meeting this week and during weekends for several hours each day to work toward a compromise.  While these talks continue, the House has continued to work on issues important to the people in our communities, such as annexation, health and education.

FAA INSPECTORS UNION APPLAUDS FOREIGN REPAIR STATION BILL

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) today introduced the Safe Aviation Facilities Ensure Aircraft Integrity and Reliability Act of 2008 calling for more strict oversight of foreign repair stations, and the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS), AFL-CIO, the union that represents more than 11,000 FAA employees, including aviation safety inspectors, are commending the action.

FAA Reauthorization Status‏

After much debate and plenty of amendment activity, in which we have been actively engaged over the third party procedure design, flight check and implementation issue, it would seem that FAA reauthorization is dead for now. See the attached Congressional Quarterly article

Senate Speeds FAA-Overhaul Bill

Action on the FAA bill accelerated after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) on Thursday filed a motion to call for a procedural vote on Monday. That increased pressure on Senate negotiators to reach a deal.

Democratic US Senatorial Forum

In case you couldn't catch the live broadcast of March 28th's Democratic US Senatorial Forum.  Candidates participating have all filed as Democrats for North Carolina's U.S. Senate seat and include: Duskin Lassiter of Lexington, Howard Staley of Moncure, Jim Neal of Chapel Hill, Kay Hagan of Greensboro, and Marcus W. Williams of Lumberton. The winner of the May 6 Democratic US Senatorial seat primary will face incumbent US Senator Elizabeth Dole in the November election.

House passes FAA reauthorization bill

The House of Representatives on 9/21 passed critical legislation, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2007 (H.R. 2881), by a vote of 267 to 151. H.R. 2881 is a pivotal piece of legislation to PASS and the aviation community.

Go figure. Browsing the Yahoo News section this evening as I so frequently do I ran across the gem of gems in news stories...

The headline read "Schumer: FAA chief should resign"

Reading through the story I am elated and saddened all in the same breath.

You see, I couldn't have asked for more out of a US Senator, but on the same hand I hate to see that it's taken all this time for one of them to open their eyes enough to see Blakey's errors. And that their scope is narrowed on the delays at the 3 New York area airports...

But I digress. She's nothing more than a White House pawn and ill equipped for the boat she captains. She is handing out the Bush Admin's agenda of Union busting and in the process destroying our nations coveted aviation system. She's more concerned with looking good upstairs than dealing with the real problems the NAS is encountering and all the while outsourcing every job she can possibly imagine....

My hope is, that with a Democratic majority in both chambers they can get in gear and make it part of the pubic record that she's worthless, and even more so, clean up the mess that Blakey's FAA has created.
